In the twentieth century, higher education institutions were associated only with broadly understood scholarly activities rather than being perceived as a supplier in the meetings market. One of the forms of education is delivering lectures, and it is this form that is related to the function of universities in this area. Because of the infrastructure which universities have, they can become competitive. The article discusses the international market potential which was assessed for the University of Economics in Poznan in the years 2009-2011. The basic variables which were used in calculating the potential included the number of conferences, the number of academic researchers, the number of rooms and the number of departments in the organizational structure of the university. The results confirmed the thesis that the Poznan University of Economics can actively participate in the meetings market both as a supplier and a consumer.
