Abstract

This article attempts to present and organise the tasks performed by contemporary managers in various positions. The aim of the article is to find a single competence which could be regarded as essential for every manager. After researching the literature, the author proposes that the fundamental managerial ability in the current socio-economic system should be the ability to diagnose the competences necessary for completing a particular task. At the core of this approach is the belief that for the effective management of an organization, managers should have a very precise knowledge of the development needs of their employees.
