The Application of Principal Component Analysis in the Consruction of Scale to Web Usability Measurement

The aim of this article is to show the usefulness of principal component analysis in creating a questionnaire with use of composite scales to measure attitudes, particularly in the Likert scale. Analyses were performed by measuring the usability of the University of Economics in Poznan website. In the research two questionnaires were used with varying numbers of test items. In the first measurement scale used consisted of 15 items, and in the second - 25 items. The analysis of the results was focused on the evaluation of homogeneousness Likert scales which was used and the possibility of using the method of principal components in optimising the number of items in these scales.
