Abstract

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the characteristics of high-tech small and medium-sized enterprises in the light of contacts held by such entities with the scientific community. In the study the results of surveys conducted in 2012 amongst a carefully selected group of 50 high technology SMEs were used. The scope of the research covered a wide range of different aspects of innovational activity in the companies surveyed. The time range of research covered the period 2009-2011.The study assumed that the most advanced form of cooperation with scientific research units are joint research projects. As the results of the research show such form of cooperation was chosen more often by companies benefiting from EU grants, involved in export activities, introducing innovation with a high level of originality and allocating significant resources to R&D.
