The relationships that exist between the loan market and the overall economy are complex. Among the variables characterizing the loan market it is possible to identify the leading and lagging ones for the whole economy as well as its sectors. The purpose of this paper is to determine whether the variables describing the demand by companies for bank loans can be leading indicators for the whole economy and specific sectors. To determine these relationships, an analysis of mutual correlograms is conducted and the turning points in the time series for the variables analysed are compared. On the basis of these analyses the lead lengths of the indicators relating to company loan demands in relation to the economic tendency indicators is established.
