W ostatnich latach znaczenie zagranicznych inwestycji bezpośrednich (ZIB) Chińskiej Republiki Ludowej zaczęło systematycznie wzrastać na całym świecie - z końcem 2012 roku łączna wartość ZIB Państwa Środka przekroczyła 500 mld USD [The Heritage Foundation 2013]. Trend wzrostowy stał się szczególnie widoczny po ogłoszonej w 2000 roku strategii Going Global. W efekcie jej wprowadzenia powstały wyspecjalizowane instytucje odpowiedzialne za wsparcie inwestycji, zawarto także liczne porozumienia gospodarcze. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest podsumowanie zmian w polityce bezpośrednich inwestycji zagranicznych Chin po roku 1979 oraz identyfikacja czynników decydujących o rosnącej roli chińskich ZIB.
