The aim of this article is to combine two issues: an increase in employment flexibility and HR downsizing. In order to justify the importance of this matter, the scale of labour market transformation as well as changes in employment (including its decrease) are discussed. On the basis of secondary research, the problems, barriers and determinants of success in the restructuring of this area are presented. Positive examples of downsizing linked to an increase in employee productivity are shown on the basis of case studies. An important conclusion and recommendation of the article is that attention should be paid to the cost and financial results associated with downsizing, which is accompanied by social and economic determinants of success.
