This article attempts to examine the coupling between the organizational culture observed in public hospitals and pro-innovative practices of human resource management in these units. The study was conducted among physicians, nurses/midwives, and managers in eight public hospitals in Poland. Empirical verification was based on relationships analysis and correspondence analysis. The obtained study results generally confirmed the linkage between the studied variables. Respondents indicated the occurrence of cultural or personal task symptoms in their hospitals, and at the same time saw the need for pro-innovation in HRM practices. These practices are expressed, among others, in recruiting people open to change and creativity, encouraging staff training, and the knowledge of sharing and rewarding staff for innovativeness. At the same time, results also indicate the different opinions of individual professional groups (professional subcultures), which may justify the different approaches and methods in solving personal dilemmas that are so important in the process of creating innovative hospitals.
