A demanding, dynamic and uncertain environment is the setting for organizations nowadays. Innovation can be the key to successful environmental adaptation. However, to innovate, organizations need to generate and implement creative ideas. The generation of creative ideas is only possible in a work environment conducive to creativity. As an organizational climate for creativity is a complex construct, it can be approached from different theoretical perspectives. This paper outlines definitional aspects of an organizational climate in general, organizational creativity and, finally, an organizational climate for creativity. Further, the main instruments for assessing a climate for creativity are reviewed, as previous research proves that this construct can be operationalized. The paper also presents the difficulties which are connected with operationalization attempts in this field.
