Facteurs influençant la demande d’importation au Liban : Une étude basée sur des données de panel de biens ayant un avantage comparatif

Objectif : Cet article vise à examiner les principaux déterminants de la demande de biens importés que le Liban peut produire localement. Ces informations aideront les décideurs politiques à concevoir des mesures visant à réduire les importations de biens pouvant être produits localement et à soutenir la production locale.
Conception/méthodologie/approche : Cet article exploite le modèle des moindres carrés de panel sur des données relatives à 32 biens pour la production desquels le Liban dispose d’un avantage comparatif couvrant la période janvier 2014–décembre 2023 et teste l’hypothèse nulle selon laquelle la demande d’importation au Liban n’est pas déterminé par le coût des biens importés, la crise et les réserves de change.
Résultats : Les résultats révèlent que les réserves de change et la crise sont les principaux déterminants de la demande d’importation de biens pouvant être fabriqués localement. En outre, la sensibilité de la quantité importée aux variations des variables explicatives
diffère d’un bien à l’autre.
Originalité/valeur : Cette étude actuelle contribue à la littérature existante en se concentrant sur les biens locaux dans la production desquels le Liban dispose d’un avantage comparatif.
