I. The Procedure of Reviewing

All manuscripts submitted to Research Papers in Economics and Finance undergo an initial evaluation by a member of the Editorial Board. At this stage, papers may be rejected if they fall outside the journal’s scope, lack sufficient originality, or are written in inadequate English.

The journal follows internationally recognized standards of publication ethics and good editorial practice, including the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All submissions are subject to ethical screening, including checks for originality and potential misconduct.

Prior to peer review, all manuscripts are screened using anti-plagiarism software to ensure the originality of the submitted work.

Submissions that meet the minimum formal and substantive requirements are sent for double-blind peer review and evaluated by at least two independent reviewers. Under this procedure, neither the author(s) nor the reviewers know each other’s identities.

Reviewers are selected on the basis of their scientific expertise, academic achievements, and relevance of research interests to the subject of the manuscript. The Editorial Board ensures that reviewers remain independent of the authors and are free from any conflicts of interest.

The review process is conducted using the tools provided by the PKP OJS platform. Reviewers receive an automatically generated e-mail containing the manuscript abstract and an invitation to review. Once they agree to review the submission, they are granted full access to the manuscript through the journal’s website. Reviewers complete the review form online and provide their comments directly in the system.

All reviews and editorial decisions are archived within the journal’s editorial system for documentation, transparency, and quality assurance purposes.

The journal aims to ensure an efficient and transparent review process. The average time to the first editorial decision is approximately 8 weeks, while the full peer review process typically takes up to 16 weeks, depending on the complexity of the manuscript and reviewer availability.

Evaluation Criteria

Criterion 1. Significance of the paper
This criterion concerns the importance and clarity of the research problem, the originality of the research area, and the contribution of the study to the existing state of the art.

Criterion 2. Research methodology
This criterion concerns the quality of the research design and implementation, the criteria for data selection, the theoretical framework of the paper, and the appropriateness and correct application of the research methods.

Criterion 3. Consistency of the paper
This criterion concerns the clarity of the paper’s structure, the coherence between its main objective, title, and content, and the consistency between the methods used and the results obtained.

Criterion 4. Form of the paper
This criterion concerns the clarity and precision of language, the correct use of terminology, the accuracy of references, and the extent to which the paper engages with articles published in reputable academic journals.

Criterion 5. Final recommendation
a) Accept without changes
b) Accept subject to minor revisions
c) Major revisions required; resubmission and re-review necessary
d) Reject the manuscript

Editorial Decision-Making Process

Reviews are assessed by members of the Editorial Board at every stage of the process. The final decision concerning acceptance, revision, or rejection of the manuscript is made by the Editorial Board on the basis of the reviewers’ recommendations.

If the Editorial Board asks the corresponding author to revise the manuscript, the revised version must be submitted in two forms: one version with tracked changes and one clean version.

If the reviewers request major revisions, the corrected manuscript is sent back to them for re-review.

If the initial reviews differ substantially, but the Editorial Board decides to invite the author to revise the manuscript, the revised version may also be sent to an additional reviewer after the requested changes have been introduced.

On the basis of all opinions collected during the first and, where applicable, second round of review, the Editorial Board makes the final decision on whether the paper will be accepted for publication.

If the paper is accepted, it is forwarded to the English-language editor for linguistic revision and to the proofreader for verification of compliance with the journal’s editorial and bibliographic standards. The corresponding author is expected to respond promptly to any comments or queries raised at this stage.

At the final stage of the publication process, proofs are sent to the corresponding author for final approval. At this point, corrections should be limited strictly to typographical or minor editorial errors.
