Initial submission: Your paper your way

In order to facilitate the submission process, the authors are initially expected to adjust their manuscripts to basic requirements that are presented in the submission checklist below. When the text has been accepted for publication, the authors must adhere to all guidelines which are discussed in the "after acceptance" section. At both stages (initial submission, manuscript acceptance), the text may be returned to the authors if it does not meet the guidelines required at that stage.

All submitted articles are subject to anti-plagiarism control.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission from the copyright holder to reproduce any data, tables, schemes and figures for which copyright exists.

Submission of a paper to the EBR implies that:
• it has not been published previously;
• it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere;
• after acceptance, the paper will not be published elsewhere in the same form without the written permission of the EBR editor.

The EBR also considers articles based on studies published in conference proceedings or as working papers, provided they have been substantially revised, expanded and rewritten. The EBR requires the original paper to be supplied by the author along with the expanded article for the purpose of comparison. Moreover, an article submitted for publication in the EBR must have the following statement in a footnote: 'This article is a revised and expanded version of the paper entitled [title] accessible at [link or some other reference to the paper]'. Such information should be also specified in the "Notes for the Editor" field when the manuscript is submitted. If applicable, authors should provide standard written copyright permissions.

After acceptance: technical guidelines

Requirements at the production stage:

  1. All articles (except those from Canada and the USA) must be written in British English.

  2. Manuscripts are to be edited in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or as an RTF document file using the Calibri 12-point font in A4 paper format, one and half spaced and be aligned. Pages should be numbered. Maximum size of the paper should be up to 8,000 words (including figures and tables, references, footnotes). At the same time, brief articles (around 3,000 words) presenting insightful studies in a concise way are also welcomed.

  3. The title should be as short as possible. Abbreviations should not be used in the title. It is important that the topic mentioned in the title is adequately covered in the paper itself.

  4. Addresses and affiliations should contain the department, name of the institution, full postal address of the institution and e-mail address for each author and their ORCID iDs (verification of the ORCID number is mandatory). This applies to the lead author and all co-authors. Please click on the link in the return email and authorise with your orcid id.

  5. An abstract should have no fewer than 100 words and no more than 150. It should summarize the contents of the paper (aims, methods, results, and conclusions).

  6. Papers should have keywords and the Journal of Economic Literature classification codes (JEL Codes). Keywords should consist of no more than ten words or short phrases. They need to correspond to the JEL codes areas.

  7. Acknowledgements and references to grants, affiliations, postal and e-mail addresses, etc. should appear as a separate footnote to the author’s name a, b, etc. and should not be included in the main list of footnotes. It should be also specified who is the contact author by adding the statement “Contact author” at the end of that person’s footnote.

  8. The article should be divided into sections and also into subsections, if necessary. Sections are numbered, except for Introduction and Conclusions. Sections are divided into paragraphs. Each paragraph should have at least three complete sentences.

  9. The Introduction should state the aim of the article, its literature background, research methods, main results and, what is of particular importance, the contribution of the study to international literature. The final paragraph should present the contents of the article.

  10. The aims declared and presented in the Introduction and developed in the subsequent sections of the article should be reflected and addressed in Conclusions.

  11. All Tables and Figures should be numbered and shown consecutively in the paper, according to their numeration. They should be referred to before they appear in the manuscript. Data in Tables and Figures should be interpreted in the main text with reference to the numbers of the Tables and Figures. All Tables and Figures should be understandable on their own as far as is possible – the readers should not have to check the main text to comprehend information presented in Tables and Figures. The sources of all data used in Tables and Figures must always be written. All diagrams including schemes and maps should be referred to as Figures.

  12. Tables or Figures should not be the last element of a section. Every section should end with a paragraph of text.

  13. If any Tables or Figures are in colour, they will only appear in colour in the online version of the journal. In the printed version they will be in black and white. However, if colour is essential to the figure, a good quality colour image should be submitted. Tables and Figures should be free of any unnecessary decorative elements.

  14. Equations should be numbered consecutively throughout the text using the Arabic numbers written in parentheses, e.g.: (1), (2), (3) …

  15. Footnotes should be avoided. However, if used, they need to be short and numbered consecutively throughout the text in Arabic numerals. Footnotes should be set in Calibri 10-point font.

  16. Cross-references should refer to particular section numbers: e.g.: see Section 1.4.

  17. Quoted texts of more than 40 words should be separated from the main body by a four-spaced indentation of the margin as a block.

  18. The Economics and Business Review uses the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition reference system for citations in the text with a detailed alphabetical list at the end of the article. Full references should include all authors’ names and initials, date of publication, title of article, title of publication (in italics), volume and issue number (of a journal), publisher and form (books, conference proceedings) and page numbers. All works cited in the text and only those must be included in the References section at the end of the article.

Submission Preparation Checklist

In line with the 'Your Paper, Your Way' policy, all submissions must initially meet the following simplified requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published nor is it under consideration for publication elsewhere (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submitted manuscript must be anonymous (in particular, it must not be possible to learn the authors’ identities based on the list of references or the file properties). Additionally, a title page (as a separate file) must be submitted. This should specify the affiliation, email address and ORCID iD of each author (verification of the ORCID number is mandatory!). Acknowledgements and references to research grants should be added to the title page.
  • The manuscript is prepared in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • The length of the manuscript should not exceed 8,000 words (including figures and tables, references, footnotes).
  • The manuscript includes an abstract that has no fewer than 100 words and no more than 150. It summarizes the contents of the paper (aims, methods, results, and conclusions).
  • The manuscript is divided into clearly distinctive sections that include Introduction and Conclusions. The Introduction states the aim of the study, research methods, main results and, particularly, the contribution of the study to the international literature. Its final paragraph should present the contents of the article.
  • All Tables and Figures should be numbered and presented consecutively in the paper according to their numeration. All Tables and Figures should be understandable on their own as far as is possible – the readers should not have to check the main text to comprehend information presented in Tables and Figures. The sources of all data used in Tables and Figures are specified.
  • The authors should use one style of references to the literature consistently throughout the text.
  • Make sure you have filled our survey form.
