Pouvoir de marché et efficience : Cas du secteur bancaire de l'UEMOA

Dans cet article nous analysons la relation entre le pouvoir de marché et l'efficience de coût sur un échantillon de 49 banques formé à partir de sept pays de l'Union Economique et Monétaire Ouest Africaine (UEMOA) sur la période 2003-2014. Notre méthodologie empirique repose sur l'analyse des données de panel et sur l'estimateur 2SLS IV. Nos résultats montrent que le pouvoir de marché réduit l'efficience de coût des banques des pays de l'UEMOA à travers une hausse des coûts opératoires. Cela conforte le Quiet Life Hypothesis qui stipule qu'un marché concentré incite à des comportements sous optimaux nuisibles à la profitabilité bancaire. Ces résultats ont d'importantes implications de politiques de régulation bancaire dans l'UEMOA.
