The paper discusses the structural barriers to R&D in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, emerging markets striving to build economies based on innovation and knowledge. In reality research and development in the above countries suffer from some structural faults including: deficiency in R&D investments, ineffective structure based on government funding and insufficient engagement of business in financing and implementation of R&D.Downloads
