Abstract

Having recently celebrated its 20th birthday since its inception in 1992, the Balanced Scorecard has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a simple performance measurement tool. Over this period it has undergone a number of developments regarding its design and implementation. Kaplan & Norton, the originators of the balanced scorecard, have continued to build on their initial work, while stimulating numerous academics and practitioners to comment and adapt on their original findings. The scorecard has now grown into an effective management tool that directs strategy throughout many organisations globally.(original abstract)
